Joan Lewis,Cheektowaga Police Indentified Woman Killed In Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident
CHEEKTOWAGA, NY – A fatal motor vehicle accident claimed the life of a local woman on Tuesday afternoon.On January 6, 2026, at approximately 1:15 PM, Cheektowaga Public Safety Dispatchers received multiple calls reporting a serious crash on William Street near Colton Street. The collision involved a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling in opposite directions.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Honda Accord crossed the center median, resulting in a head-on collision with the Jeep. The 91-year-old driver of the Honda, identified as Joan Lewis of Cheektowaga, was found unresponsive. Emergency personnel from the Doyle Fire Department and Rural Metro performed life-saving measures at the scene before transporting her via ambulance to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), where she was later pronounced deceased.
The 29-year-old driver of the Jeep remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. The exact cause of the accident remains under active investigation by the Cheektowaga Police Department.
