It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Tyrone George Michael Whittaker, known affectionately as Ace and Mangu Ace. Born on August 7, 1996, he left this world on January 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his closest whānau.
A beloved son, friend, and a vibrant presence in his community, Tyrone’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many in Christchurch’s Aranui and beyond. His loss is deeply felt across the South Island.
Tyrone will be lying at Iona Presbyterian Church, 304 Breezes Road, Aranui. His family requests privacy for whānau at the church from 3pm Saturday, with friends welcome to pay their respects from 5:30pm onward.
His tangi service will be held at the church on Monday, January 12, at 10am. In a final tribute to his life and connections, a last ride through the neighbourhood will commence at 12:30pm. Tyrone will then be laid to rest at 1pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, on the corner of Cypress Street and Ruru Road.
We remember Ace not just for his sunset, but for the sunrise he brought to many. May he journey peacefully. Our aroha and condolences are with all who loved him.
